Our work started with a middle school service project of BB Inc.’s founder Colette Ankeman where she made hats and blankets for newborn babies at Baragwanath Hospital in Soweto, Johannesburg, South Africa, where many mothers would otherwise have to take their new babies home wrapped in plastic or newspaper. The project grew to provide thousands of handmade hats and blankets hand-delivered to expectant mothers, babies and children around the world.
Baragwanath Blessings Inc. (BB Inc.) has distributed over 10,000 handmade hats and thousands of blankets for babies and children in over a dozen countries. These hats and blankets, lovingly made by our volunteers, provide physical warmth and so much more. Studies have shown that children who are wrapped in a blanket get held more and do better developmentally. These handmade items also share a personal message of love and support.
