The World Health Organization and the World Food Bank have both identified Guatemala as one of countries in most desperate need due to its high incidence of malnutrition and poverty.  They estimate that in the Mayan communities over 80% suffer from malnutrition.  Not only are the intake of protein and basic calories a problem but they also don't have the fortified foods that we have in this country.  The World Food Bank estimates that 23% of deaths due to malnutrition could be avoided by supplementation of the necessary micro-nutrients.  The supplementation of these necessary nutrients would cost less than $1.00 a month per child.  Deficiencies not only tragically result in deaths but also cause chronic diarrhea, skin rashes, lethargy, muscle weakness and wasting and permanent developmental delays because the developing brain does not get the nutrients it needs.  We plan to start a program of supplementation of these micro-nutrients to be ongoing in Guatemala.  This is an attainable goal with your help.   Please consider making a donation to help this program grow.  We can make life better for those many many children who are suffering.
