In addition to ongoing projects in BB Inc.’s major project focus areas, BB Inc. regularly conducts special projects to address particular circumstances or to take advantage of special opportunities. For example, to address particular needs and circumstances, BB Inc. has organized relief donations of blankets, clothing and supplies for victims of natural disasters such as the earthquake in Haiti and mudslides in Guatemala and for refuges in Afghanistan. Working with community partners, BB Inc. has conducted Christmas toy drives for children in need in Guatemala and the San Francisco Bay Area. For a toy drive for children in the Mayan highlands in Guatemala, BB Inc. undertook a project to make ethically and culturally appropriate dolls dressed in traditional Mayan clothing.

BB Inc. has been able to use its global network of community partners and volunteers to take advantage of special volunteer opportunities and donations. One particularly gratifying example occurred when we received an unexpected donation of about 500 baseball jerseys only to learn from a partner organization in Kenya that they were trying to organize a new youth soccer league but had no uniforms. The jerseys fit the bill perfectly. In addition, we’ve received large donations of caps that we’ve distributed to provide sun protection for children and adults in Africa and Central America. Through generous donations of toothbrushes we’ve been able to provide toothbrushes through our medical clinics and other health programs. BB Inc. has also been fortunate to sponsor numerous collection drives and other service projects for Eagle Scouts, Girl Scout Gold Awards, and community and church youth groups that have supplied much-needed shoes, clothes, hats, blankets, toys, and food for people in need in Africa, Asia Central America and the San Francisco Bay Area.
