Baragwanath Blessings Inc. (BB Inc.) is a 501(c)(3) group with the mission of helping babies and children in need around the world. BB Inc.’s projects have reached over 25 different countries, including projects in Guatemala and many countries in Africa, as well as in the San Francisco Bay Area and in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Colette Ankenman, currently a graduate student at UC Davis, is BB Inc.’s founder and president. It all started with a community service assignment in the eighth grade. After hearing of the horrific conditions at Baragwanath Hospital in Soweto, Johannesburg, South Africa, where newborn babies are often sent home wrapped in plastic or newspaper, Colette sent her first shipment of 120 hand-knit baby hats and receiving blankets to be hand-delivered for newborns at the hospital. Colette then learned there were many babies and children around the world who struggle in similar circumstances, and she created BB Inc. to help them.
BB Inc.’s projects have improved the quality of life and health of thousands of children and families by providing hand-knit hats, blankets, medical care, educational support, clothes, vitamins, food and much more. Equally important, under Colette’s caring leadership, BB Inc. strives to convey a message of love and support with donations that are hand-delivered and handmade as much as possible.
